كيف يمكن للضوء أن يكون "بركة" مركزة و"ناعمة وليست قاسية" في الوقت نفسه؟
الشكل المخروطي العريض والمقلوب يؤدي المهمتين معاً: صيغته المفتوحة والموجهة نحو الأسفل توجه الضوء إلى بركة محددة تحت المصباح، وهذا مفيد جداً للمهام مثل القراءة، بينما الزجاج نفسه ينشر هذا الضوء أثناء مروره عبره — مما يلطف حواف الشعاع بدلاً من إلقاء دائرة حادة وقاسية تشبه الأضواء الكاشفة. تحصل على ضوء موجه دون الوهج الذي ينتجه المصباح العاري المكشوف.
الحجمان يشتركان في نفس العرض والارتفاع — فما الذي يتغير مع نسخة الإضاءتين؟
